WELCOME TO NEW MEMBERS
I'd like to extend a welcome (or welcome back, as the case may be),
to the following new members: Mike Haydon-KF8ZN, Heather
Schlesser-KC9DEQ, Dave Baird-WA9PDS, Kimberly Lewis-KC9DDX, Greg
Abbott-KB9NBH, and Andy Ziegler-KB9LGM. If you know of any hams
that might be interested in public service, please invite them to
the next meeting. An updated membership roster is attached to this
email.

WEATHER NET PROCEDURES REVISED
The ARES weather net procedures have been updated and revised.
These were reviewed at the meeting and will be distributed to
everyone via email in the future. They will also be posted on the
web site. They were put to the test before the week was out, as we
had our first severe weather deployment on Friday, April 4. Eight
ARES members participated, and one of our teams was in the heart
of the action up in the Fisher area.

VEHICLE PLACARDS
Laminated ARES vehicle placards were distributed to new and recent
members at the April 2 meeting. These should be displayed in your
vehicle windows when participating in ARES functions such as storm
spotting, public service events, etc. A copy has been provided to
the county sheriff so that they are familiar with them and know
what they are for. Members who have the old larger placards will
receive the new 8.5x11 version as I can get them completed.

APRIL 6 MS WALK
Six ARES members braved the blustery cold on Sunday, April 6th to
provide communications for the MS Walk held in Meadowbrook Park.
The attendance at the event was less than expected due to the
weather, but otherwise it was a successful event and the organizers
appreciated our services. At least the rain ended before we started
and it stayed dry the entire time. We had net control, four
checkpoints along the walkers' route, and one floater. Those
participating were Steve-N9XDC, Jon-KB9ZZW, Jim-W9MOO, Heather-KC9DEQ,
Mark-KB9KAI, and Tom-K9CFD. Jon did a fine job as net control.

MARCH OF DIMES WALKAMERICA
Our next event is the March of Dimes WalkAmerica event on Sunday,
April 27th. This is a 10K walk that will wind its way through much
of west Champaign. We will need approximately 12-15 people for
this event. We are meeting with the event organizers soon and will
have more details for you then. I will be sending out email to
request signups for this event in the near future.

TCARC AUCTION
The Twin City Amateur Radio Club of C-U will be holding its annual
auction on Saturday, April 19th at Lincoln Square in Urbana.
Details can be found at http://www.qsl.net/w9seh/AuctFly2.htm

APRIL NET CONTROL STATIONS
We forgot to assign net control stations for April at the April 2
meeting, so we'll handle NCS on a week to week basis. If you'd like
to take net control on a Tuesday night please let me know. I will
be taking the April 8 net.

Be sure to check the web site before your net to get the latest
net check-in sheet. We are adding new members and I am trying to
keep the check-in list updated.

Note: If the designated NCS does not begin by 9:02, then net control
should be taken by any other member. Always be prepared. Remember
to turn in your check-in sheets at the next monthly meeting.

TCARC TO SPONSOR FOX HUNT
TCARC will sponsor a fox hunt the weekend of May 10-11 in recognition
of National Foxhunting Weekend. All the details are yet to be worked
out. Information will be available on the Thursday night TCARC/Synton
net on the 146.760 repeater and in the May TCARC newsletter.

ANOTHER REMINDER - DOCUMENTS NOW AVAILABLE ON WEB SITE
The net script, check-in sheet, and other documents are available
on our web site, www.wa9res.org. We now how a viewable directory
of documents on the web. Go to www.wa9res.org/documents to see
the list.

NEXT MEETING
The next ARES meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 7, 2003, 7:00
p.m. at the FSI. At this meeting we will be reviewing revised
operating procedures for severe weather nets this season, and
planning for our April public service event.
