WELCOME TO NEW MEMBERS
I'd like to extend a welcome to Matthew Skaj, KC9DEO.

AMERICAN DIABETES ASSOCIATION WALK OCTOBER 5th
Champaign County ARES will be providing communications support for the
American Diabetes Association Walk on Sunday, October 5th at Market Place
Mall. Registration will begin at 12 noon and the walk will begin at 1:00
p.m. The walk and associated activities will conclude by 2:30 or 3:00 p.m.
The walk course will take place both inside and outside the mall, so we will
need to cover both courses.Ê
At some point before the walk I would like to take a small group out to the
mall to test our ability to communicate inside the mall. If you are
interested in helping out with this task, please let me know. I will be
sending out a request for volunteers for the walk itself in the next week
or two. The walk "headquarters" will be in the Food Court. We will have a
table from which to operate and also hand out information about ham radio
and ARES. This will be a great opportunity for some exposure.

RED CROSS DAMAGE ASSESSMENT TRAINING
The 14 members at the September meeting received the ARC damage assessment
training. The purpose of damage assessment is to quickly determine the
extent and severity of damage in the aftermath of a disaster so that sufficient
resources can be allocated to disaster relief. We will try to schedule another
session in the future so that those who were unable to attend in September can
receive this training.

SEPTEMBER NET CONTROL STATIONS
Sept 9	W9ADS
Sept. 16	KC9DSS
Sept. 23	KC9DEQ
Sept. 30	AB9FJ

Note: If the designated NCS does not begin by 9:02, then net control should be
taken by any other member. Always be prepared. Remember to turn in your
check-in sheets at the next monthly meeting.

NEXT MEETING
The next ARES meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, 2003, 7:00 p.m.
at the FSI. We will be reviewing plans for the American Diabetes Association Walk.
