ARES "BASIC TRAINING" PROGRAM CONTINUES
A program of emergency preparedness "basic training" continued during April
and May. In April, we offered an overview on the Basic Incident Command
system, and how amateur radio communications fit into the structure. In
May our training was on Spotter Preparation, Safety, and Communication.
In July, Heather Schlesser, KC9DEQ, will offer training on the ARRL Radiogram
format and messaging. Heather has completed both the Level I and Level II
ARRL Emcomm Courses and has almost completed Level III.Ê

TONE CHANGED ON .060 REPEATER
The PL tone on the 147.060 repeater has been changed o 131.8 to deal with
some interference issues. You need the tone to access the repeater, but
not to receive. Be sure your radios are programmed with this new tone.

NEW NET CHECK-IN LIST POSTED ON WEB
An updated net check-in list is now available on the WA9RES web site. Please
be sure you use it for any future nets.

 MARCH OF DIMES WALKAMERICA and MS WALK
ARES provided communications support for both of these public service events.
Both events went off without a hitch, and the weather even cooperated. For the
WalkAmerica on April 24, which covered a four mile course, several non-ARES hams
also volunteered and helped make this a successful event. Milt, K9QZI; Mark,
KA9SZX; Dave, KC8PLB, and Christine, KB9SRW (both from Synton) pitched in to help
the ARES crew handle this event.  ARES members participating were Wayne, AB9FJ;
Al, K9SI; Mark, KB9KAI; Nick, KB7NFV; Dave, WB9YKV; Chad, KC9FJL; and Steve, N9XDC.
Many thanks to the TCARC and Synton hams who helped out with this event.

ARES members assisting with the MS Walk on May 2 were:  Al, K9SI; Mike, KC9AZX;
Jon, KB9ZZW; Nick, KB7HFV; Mark, KB9KAI, and Steve, N9XDC.

NEXT MEETING
The next meeting will be Wednesday, June 2, 7:00 pm at the Fire Service Institute.
