The August meeting of ARES of Champaign County was held Wednesday, August 4,
2004 at the Fire Service Institute. Here are important notes from that meeting
and other news.

ATTENDING
N9XDC, KF8ZN, KC9AZX, KB9KAI, W9MOO, KC9DEQ, N9XDH, N9GPA, KC9DSS, W9DML,
AB9FJ, KB9ZZW

ARRL EMCOMM COURSE COMPLETIONS
Congratulations to Dave Leininger, W9DML, who recently completed the ARRL
Level I Emcomm course. Dave is also well into the Level II course at the time.
Currently we have 4 ARES members who have completed at least one of the
Emcomm courses.

NEW WEEKLY NET FORMAT
We have revised the format of the weekly ARES net. We will no longer go
through the list of all ARES callsigns as has been the practice the last
several years. The NCS will first ask for check-ins from all Champaign
County ARES members, then any other ARES members listening (in other counties
or passing through, for example), and then check-ins from any other hams.
An alphabetical by call sign checklist will be posted with the script for the
NCS to use for the nets. A copy of the new net script is attached to this QST.

OCTOBER COUNTY EXERCISE
The state will be conducting a county "weapon of mass destruction" drill
in October. The Red Cross has already informed me that they will require
our participation. The tentative date for this drill is October 14. I will
pass on more information when I receive it. We will be discussing this at our
September meeting.

AUGUST NET CONTROL STATIONS
The weekly ARES net is held each Tuesday, 9:00 p.m., on the 444.100 repeater.

August 10	KC9DEQ
August 17	KC9DSS
August 24	KF8ZN
August 31	N9XDC

The new net script and check-in list will be available on the web site soon.

NEXT MEETING
The next meeting will be Wednesday, September 1, 7:00 pm at the Fire Service Institute.Ê
