Subject: ARES of Champaign County QST - February 2005

The February meeting of ARES of Champaign County was held Wednesday, February 2,
2005 at the Fire Service Institute.

ATTENDING
N9XDC, AB9FJ, K9SI, KB9KAI, KC9AZX, W9MOO, K9MLT, KC9GRV, N9GPA,W9DML

Congratulations to Harry Osoff, KC9GRV, who upgraded to Extra at the January VE
session.

PAYMENT OF 2005 DUES
As noted in the December QST, the membership voted to reinstate dues for this
year. We have suspended dues the past two years as we had adequate funds in our
treasury and small recurring expenses. However, the purchase of equipment for a
portable station had reduced our available funds. The membership felt it was
prudent to have enough funds in the treasury for possible equipment repair
expenses, additional items for the portable station if needed, and any
unforeseen expenses that may occur.

Dues are $20 and are payable to ARES of Champaign County. Thanks to everyone
who has paid so far. Please send your check to Heather Schlesser.
Thanks for your support.

2005 STORM SPOTTER TRAINING
The National Weather Service storm spotter training for Champaign County will
be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, at the Carle Forum in Urbana. If
you plan on storm spotting this year plan to attend this session. If you can't
make it to the Champaign County session, you can attend in another county. The
full schedule of spotter training can be found at the Lincoln NWS web site:
http://www.crh.noaa.gov/ilx/spotter.htm

In addition to the weather training, we will also be holding our Spotter Safety,
Preparation, and Communications training at the April ARES meeting and probably
one other time for those that cannot attend on Wednesdays. The information in
this session deals with HOW to be a safe and effective spotter.
