The August meeting of ARES of Champaign County was held Wednesday, August 3,
2005 at the Fire Service Institute.

NEW MEMBERS
I'd like to extend a welcome to three new members - Adam Carlson, KC9HND, from
Rantoul; Joan Friedman, KC9HXY, from Urbana; and David Bellmore, KC9GIW, from
Urbana.
NATIONAL SIMULATED EMERGENCY TEST WEEKEND
The national SET weekend established by the ARRL is the weekend of October 1-2.
The ARRL Simulated Emergency Test is a nationwide exercise in emergency
communications, conducted by ARRL Section, District and local Emergency
Coordinators, and by Net Managers. Both Amateur Radio Emergency Service(r)
(ARES (r)) and the National Traffic System (NTS) are involved.
Local ARES groups are encouraged to work with their local served agencies on
this weekend. We will explore conducting a SET exercise with the Red Cross.
NET CHECK-IN LIST
An updated net check-in list is now available for download from the web. Note
that there is no link to the Documents directory on the web page - you must type

OCTOBER PUBLIC SERVICE EVENT
We have been asked to provide communications support for the American Diabetes
Association Walk on Sunday, October 9. You may recall we helped with two years
ago when it was held at Market Place Mall, This year it will be held in Crystal
Lake Park in Urbana. I'll have more details as the date approaches.
AUGUST (AND SOME SEPTEMBER) NET CONTROL STATIONS
The weekly ARES net is held each Tuesday, 9:00 p.m., on the 444.100 repeater.
There will be a new net check-in list posted on the web site before the July 19
net.
