CCARES ANNUAL MEETING
The December meeting is the official annual corporate meeting of ARES of Champaign County.  The meeting was called to order at 7:02 pm.  The minutes of the December 7, 2005 meeting were approved.  Under New business, the subject of dues for the coming year was discussed.  A  motion was made, seconded, and approved by the membership to assess dues in the amount of $20 for 2007.  In other business, there was discussion on what projects we would like to undertake this year (for example, building a second portable station).  There was also a discussion on a potential bylaws change to redefine membership categories to reflect the need for active, trained members. The purpose of the discussion was to present some possible ideas and get feedback from the membership.  The board will meet to further discuss a possible change. If a bylaw change is needed, it will be drafted and presented to the membership for a vote.

Officers and board members were elected for the coming year.  Officers and board members are as follows:  President, Steve Hiolberg, N9XDC; Secretary: Joan Friedman, KC9HXY, Treasurer: Heather Schlesser, KC9DEQ;  Board Members-Inside Directors: Al Wolfe, K9SI; Adam Carlson, KC9HND; Outside Directors, Bill Keller, CCEMA; Vacant.  Thanks to outgoing board members Wayne Hamilton, AB9FJ, and Mike Haydon, KF8ZN.

2007 DUES
At the December annual meeting the membership voted to continue dues for the coming year.  Dues are $20 and are payable to ARES of Champaign County.  Please send your check to  Heather Schlesser,  187 Paddock Dr. East, Savoy, IL 61874, or you may bring it to the next meeting.

UPDATE ON FEMA TRAINING
As of December 26, 21 CCARES members have completed ICS-100, 19 have completed ICS-700, 10 completions of ICS-200, and 6 completions of ICS-800.

Remember that under the requirements of NIMS, all participants, even volunteers, are required to have some basic training for NIMS.  The two courses required, as a minimum, for volunteers are FEMA IS-100: Introduction to the Incident Command System and FEMA IS-700: National Incident Management System (NIMS), An Introduction.   Under current regulations the first two courses must be completed. If they are not completed, you will not be allowed to work with Champaign County EMA as an ARES volunteer in an emergency or disaster response. This may also extend to working with the Red Cross in such disasters.

More information and links to the FEMA Emergency Management Institute can be found on the WA9RES web site.

When you complete any of the FEMA courses, you will need to send a copy of your course completion certificate to me so your training file can be updated and we have a record of your completion.
